  • In this video I explain a method of correcting for a protruding shower faucet without having to tear out the shower tile or tear out the back wall.

The faucet is a Moen Caldwell faucet but I understand that this occurs on other brands as well. The directions that came with it showed how to place the faucet before the tile is installed. Naturally, they give the wrong directions to compel the customer to purchase a ring to go over the plate. I had it professionally installed and thought the plumber would have had the foresight since that’s what they do for a living.

Anyway, what I did is simply take a hacksaw and cut the stud it is mounted on to push it back and then shim it up and secure it with liquid nails. It was a tedious task but at least it doesn’t look tacky by placing an additional piece of trim behind the plate.

One thing I did was cut it in small portions at a time since I didn’t want to get frustrated or too carried away and accidentally cut into the pipe. By not doing it in one sitting, or even one day or week I successfully managed to avoid cutting into the pipes to be able to push it back without incident.

I hope you find this video useful and good luck if you chose to employ this method or correcting from everyone else’s negligence.
