GIFU PREFECTURE, JAPAN – It’s generally considered good manners to flush the toilet, even if you’re in a public bathroom. But what do you do when you actually can’t flush the toilet?
Well, a man who was driving through Japan’s Gifu Prefecture was faced with that problem when he stopped to use a public bathroom at a rest stop. After the man was finished with his business he realized the flush valve on the back of the toilet was missing.
The man took a quick peek at the other toilets and urinals and realized that all of them were missing flush valves. The man contacted the police and the officer who arrived at the rest stop checked security camera footage.
CCTV revealed an elderly man who entered the bathroom with a black bag and later left with a much fuller looking bag. The police located and contacted the elderly man.
Police discovered a huge collection of toilet parts, flush valves and everything else you could imagine. The elderly gentleman explained that he stole parts from public bathrooms to re-sell for cash, it was how he was paying for his retirement.
Police arrested and charged the elderly gentleman with theft of public property.
