THAD: Hi, I’m Thad from Home Made Simple on OWN. Now water can be your worst enemy in your home. Specifically, the caulking around your sink — water will make it’s way down in there and get into the wood that’s underneath the countertop and slowly deteriorate that until the whole thing falls apart.
So what we need to do is dig this old caulking out. So you wanna just gently get underneath that caulking and separate it from the sink. Come through with a scraper tool and just dig it out and get it nice and clean.
Now I got all that old caulking out of here, and the next step before we apply new silicone caulking to here is lining all the edges up with this blue painter’s tape. So now that I have all the edges in the sink and the countertop wrapped with this blue tape, I can start putting the new silicone in there.
Now to start this process we need to pop the cap off of this tube and we need to cut the very end off. Now there’s a seal right at the base of this spout, and on the bottom of your caulking gun, a lot of them come with this little pin. And you can pull this pin out — rotate it out — put it right in the end there, and puncture that seal. Once that seal’s broken, this tube is ready to go in your caulking gun, and you got this back part here, that as you pull the trigger, it’s got this little flange on the back that’s gonna work its way up and start pushing that silicone caulking out of the tube.
Now that the silicone is all in the crack you need to finish it out by removing the excess around the edges. What you want to do is apply steady pressure and pull away the excess. While it’s still wet you want to remove that blue tape.
Now you want to give that about twenty-four hours to cure and don’t rush it. Now that the problem areas are repaired, you have protected your investment.
