I spent a couple hours setting up and testing the Triton propane hot water on demand system yesterday.
I am living in the middle of the forest and off the grid. I collect my own rain water and provide my own electricity. The only running water I have is from gravity feed out of my little 30 gallon RV water tank in the meadow or from the RV that I live in.
For this reason it took me a little while to get the propane water heater connected so I could have a shower.
At first I did not think it was going to work at all. I did not have the hoses necessary to connect the hot water heater to a water pump. Then I realized that I have an old RV water pump which takes the same hose as the shower head. Both the inlet and output water connections on the water heater are the same and the shower hose connects to them.
I searched around and found an old camper shower head and hose I had salvaged long ago. I also took the hose from my old camper to use for the test.
I finally got the water connections hooked up and used a car jump starter to run the water pump. I had running water but it was in spurts. The old RV water pump does not run smoothly and pushes water out in spurts.
I could not get the water heater to run no matter what I tried.
Finally I got the idea to turn down both the water dial and the heat selector on the water heater. This gives minimum water pressure through the shower head.
Finally the water heater fired up and I had hot water on demand in the middle of the woods.
I have hot showers off the grid now. I love it.
Later I plan to connect this water heater directly into my RV hot water lines and have hot water on demand in the faucets and the shower. It will be very nice to have hot running water after so long.
